Tune, Tommy
Active Years: 1940-today
Position: American show and film dancer and choreographer.
Career Highlights: Tune has won seven Tony awards in the fields of acting, directing and choreography. He is best known for his tap dancing in the 1973 Seesaw and in the more recent My One and Only, and for his work on the 1978 musical, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Career Totals: Tune’s career on Broadway began with Michael Bennett’s in the 1966 A Joyful Noise. It has remained strong ever since - one of his most recent hits being the 1991 Will Roger’s Follies.
Scouting Report: Tune’s tall, slender figure (he measures six feet six inches) and fast feet have become famous in the theater and film world. Recently, he fell, seriously injuring his ankle, during the out of town tryouts of his newest project, Busker’s Alley. Unfortunately, the show was canceled before its Broadway opening.
Teammates and Contemporaries: Tune started dancing under Michael Bennett. He has partnered Baayork Lee and Twiggy among others.
Fun Statistic: Although Tune appears very tall in almost every situation, he was dwarfed by the 30-foot model of a Western Woman which he set on top of the Lunt-Fontanne Theater on Broadway to promote the opening of his 1994 musical The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public.
