Career Highlights: Stroman drew her first bout of big-time attention through her staging of the successful Gershwin musical Crazy for You, for which she won a Tony. Her second Tony came just a few years later with Show Boat.

Career Totals: Stroman established her name in Philadelphia before dancing to Broadway in 1980. She debuted as a choreographer in the 1987 Off-Broadway production, Flora, the Red Menace, which gained the attention and eventually the contracts of some big New York names, including Harold Prince of the New York City Opera and Liza Minelli. Since Crazy for Youand Show Boat, she has also choreographed the Broadway production of Big.

Scouting Report: Stroman is considered a major young talent on Broadway. The New York Times reported at the opening of Crazy for Youthat she has a talent for “turning music into visual imagery” in her mind.

Teammates and Contemporaries: Stroman has staged productions for Harold Prince and Liza Minelli and co-directed a show with Scott Ellis and David Thompson called And the World Goes ‘Round. She worked with director Mike Ockrent (from Me and My Girl and script writer Ken Ludwig (from Lend Me a Tenor) on Crazy for You. She counts choreographer Hermes Pan and singer Fred Astaire as major influences on her work.

Fun Statistic: Stroman claims to have had the Broadway beat in her even as a child - according to her own account, she frustrated her mother and took a few years off the life of her family home in Delaware by tossing and juggling household items off the ceiling on a regular basis.
