825Since its opening in 1986, the Orange County Performing Arts Center has become one of this region’s most prominent landmarks, well-known for both its award-winning architecture and for the exceptional quality of performances offered within. The Center is more than an elegant, contemporary performance hall; it is also Orange County’s largest non-profit performing-arts organization, serving the community in many ways.

As the primary presenter in the 3,000-seat Segerstrom Hall, The Center itself sponsors the majority of all performances offered there. The Center’s Dance Series is unrivaled anywhere in the western United States, and The Center has become well known as one of the nation’s premier venues for the major ballet companies of the world. The Center’s Dance Series has featured exclusive West Coast engagements of such renowned companies as The Royal Ballet of Great Britain, Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet and Russia’s legendary Kirov Ballet.

National Tours

Each season, The Center also presents national tours of top Broadway musicals such as Les Miserables, Guys and Dolls, The Secret Galden, The Who’s Tommy and The Phantom of the Opera, as well as high-caliber special attractions like Japan’s Grand Kabuki Theatre, Great Britain’s renowned D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, Ray Charles in concert, Tommy Tune Tonite! and Los Angeles Opera’s The Girl of the Golden West, with Placido Domingo.

Jazz Series

The Center’s Jazz Series has offered such renowned artists as Shirley Horn, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, the Toshiko Aklyoshi Jazz Orchestra with Lew Tabackin, Tony Bennett, Slide Hampton and the JazzMasters, Mel Torme, Chick Corea, Roy Hargrove, Bob James and Ella Fitzgerald.

Chamber Music Series

The Center’s Chamber Music Series, presented in the intimate surroundings of 299-seat Founders Hall, was begun in 1989 and has included the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Winds, the Vienna Schubert Trio, the Brodsky Quartet, the Emerson String Quartet, Trio Fontenay, the Southwest Chamber Music Society and many more well known chamber ensembles.

Resident Groups

The Orange County Performing Arts Center has several resident performing groups including: the William Hall Master Chorale, comprising more than 160 exceptionally talented singers; Opera Pacific, staging four to five productions each year; the Orange County Philharmonic Society, the country’s oldest music organization; and the Pacific Chorale, widely respected for its ambitious repertoire of acclaimed choral masterworks.
