New Line Theatre

, Posted by admin

New Line Theatre is an alternative musical theater company, dedicated to the exploration and creation of issue-oriented works of the musical theater. Since 1992, New Line has produced world premieres, new productions of important New York musicals, and revues tracing the history and evolution of the art form. As a resident of the St. Marcus Theatre in St. Louis, an intimate 150-seat experimental theater, New Line presents intense, in-your-face productions in a space where the front row is only a few feet from the stage.

New works presented by New Line have included Attempting the Absurd (1992), Breaking Out in Harmony (1994), In the Blood (1995), Out on Broadway (1996), and the Ballad of Little Mikey (1997). Original cast albums of both In the Blood and Out on Broadway are being released nationwide by AEI Records in 1997. New Line has also presented a number of ground-breaking musicals by Stephen Sondheim (who sits on the New Line board of directors), including Company, Sweeney Todd, Assassins, and Passion.

New Line’s commitment to helping people better understand serious musical theater can be seen in the company’s extensive program notes, teacher study guides, background kits, Student Rep Program, and its quarterly newsletter with news and views on musical theater around the world.
