Blue Heron Arts Center
The Blue Heron Arts Center contains two fully equipped theatres, studios for rehearsals and workshops, an exhibit gallery, and office space for resident theatre companies. It offers performance and rehearsal space to a number of theater companies, houses educational outreach and after school programs and provides space for schools and community groups for performances and other activities. The gallery features changing art and educational exhibits.
The Center is the permanent home for Blue Heron Theatre, a not-for-profit group recognized for its issue-oriented award-winning productions and education programs. Blue Heron is a thinking person’s theatre, whose productions and ancillary programs challenge the mind, stir the emotions and focus on provocative issues and ideas - the universal qualities of the human experience relevant to today’s world: freedom and oppression, politics, racism and the individual and society.
Since 1987, Blue Heron Theatre has received national and local media coverage including the New York Times and support from NYSCA, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, individuals and corporations.
